What We Do

Welcome to New Horizons

At New Horizons, we are more than just advocates; we are a lifeline for young people facing the often-overwhelming challenge of mental health. Our mission is clear: to make mental health a priority for every young person and to ensure that no one is left to struggle alone. We believe that when communities come together, we have the power to break the silence surrounding mental health, offering hope, understanding, and, most importantly, action.

Raising Awareness, Changing Lives

We know that education is key to changing the conversation around mental health. That’s why we work tirelessly to raise awareness in ways that genuinely connect with young people. Through carefully crafted partnerships with influential content creators on platforms like YouTube and Twitch, we’ve found innovative ways to bring critical messages to large, diverse audiences. These collaborations allow us to host impactful events and projects aimed at creating a safer, more understanding, and kinder digital world. But our work doesn’t stop there. We’ve established strong ties with local schools, where we offer lectures and workshops on mental health. These aren’t your typical talks—they’re dynamic, relatable sessions designed to resonate deeply with young audiences, showing them that taking care of their mental well-being is just as important as any other aspect of their lives. We cover topics like managing stress, the importance of hobbies, and how to support friends who may be struggling. Each school visit is crafted to leave a lasting impression, because we know that a single conversation can change the course of a life.

The Power of Shared Experience

Our volunteers and team members aren’t just advocates—they’re people who’ve lived through the challenges of mental health themselves. We believe that real stories are the most powerful tool we have. That’s why we place so much emphasis on personal experience. The struggles we conquer today equip us with the wisdom to help others overcome theirs tomorrow. Every battle fought makes us stronger, and every story shared brings us closer to breaking the stigma.

Creating Safe Spaces

In a world where it’s easy to feel alone, New Horizons is creating places where young people can find the connection they need. Our upcoming forum-based platform will offer a safe space for individuals to open up and share their struggles anonymously with others who understand. It’s a place where you don’t have to pretend everything’s okay—because sometimes, what you need most is simply to be heard. We believe that even strangers can offer the most profound support when they are united by shared experiences and a willingness to listen.

The Impact We Strive For

Our vision is ambitious but necessary: a future where youth mental health is not just an afterthought, but a priority for communities, schools, and online spaces alike. We want to create a ripple effect, where every young person feels seen, heard, and valued. Mental health challenges can often make you feel invisible or unworthy. We are here to remind every young person that they matter, that their feelings are valid, and that there’s a community of people ready to walk with them through whatever darkness they face.At New Horizons, we are constantly evolving and expanding our efforts, because we know this is a fight worth fighting. We are here to advocate, to educate, and to connect—and most importantly, to save lives. Together, we can break down the barriers that keep people isolated in their struggles. Together, we can ensure that no one gets left behind.

Who We Are

Hello!

I’m Oliver, the founder of New Horizons. With a deep passion for psychology and behavioral science, I plan to further my studies in these areas to continue making a positive impact on mental health. Born and raised in the northern regions of Sweden, I have long been committed to working directly with youth, both locally and online. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of leading mental health lectures for students ranging from 3rd to 9th grade in schools across the region. My goal has always been to equip young minds with the knowledge and tools to navigate life’s challenges.

The Origins of New Horizons

New Horizons began as a small yet powerful initiative in early 2018, under the name "Into The Light." Alongside two incredible friends, Lauren and Madeline from the United States, I founded this project to serve as an online support group for young people facing mental health struggles. Our aim was simple but profound: to provide a safe space where young individuals could feel understood, supported, and connected. As life took each of us down different paths, the project was temporarily put on hold. However, in 2020, I made the decision to reignite this passion under a new name: Horizon. It marked a fresh start for our initiative, and with that came a renewed dedication to building something sustainable and far-reaching. Horizon quickly evolved, growing in scope and purpose, until it became what we proudly call today New Horizons Youth Support Organisation, otherwise known as The New Horizons Project—an organization committed to youth mental health advocacy on a global scale.

Our Evolution and Global Reach

Since our reestablishment, New Horizons has expanded its reach in ways we couldn’t have imagined. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world saw an unprecedented rise in mental health concerns, especially among youth. As 2023 dawned, our membership and volunteer base continued to grow internationally, creating a diverse and vibrant community that spans continents. From small beginnings as an online support group, we have evolved into a global movement, united by our shared commitment to advocate for mental health, spread awareness, and build inclusive, supportive communities.Today, New Horizons is more than just an organization—it’s a network of youth volunteers from all corners of the world, driven by a common goal: to improve the mental health landscape for young people everywhere. We are a collective of students, activists, and advocates who believe that the well-being of our generation is something worth fighting for. Together, we strive to build a future where no one feels alone in their mental health journey, and where access to support is available to all.

Why We Stand Out

What sets New Horizons apart is not only our deep connection to the communities we serve but also our hands-on approach to making change happen. We understand the struggles faced by today’s youth because we, too, are part of that generation. Our leadership and volunteer teams are made up entirely of young people, which gives us a unique perspective and the ability to resonate with the audiences we aim to support. We’ve worked directly with schools, organized online events, and built partnerships across platforms to create safe spaces for open dialogue about mental health. But more importantly, we are a youth-led movement. Our strength lies in our collective experiences, our willingness to listen, and our determination to take action. Whether it’s through outreach programs, digital advocacy, or personal stories shared among peers, New Horizons is here to make sure that no young person is left to struggle in silence.

Looking Ahead

As we continue to grow and adapt, our mission remains the same: to make mental health a priority for youth worldwide. The road ahead is long, but we are fueled by hope and a steadfast belief that, together, we can create a future where mental health care is accessible, and no one is left behind. This is who we are—a movement, a community, and a beacon of support for youth navigating the often-challenging journey of mental health.

Why We Exist

At New Horizons, we exist because the world is facing a mental health crisis—one that hits youth the hardest. Mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and emotional distress are affecting young people at alarming rates. The struggles they face, often in silence, can seem insurmountable. For many, the weight of these challenges goes unnoticed until it's too late.We refuse to let that continue.

The Silent Struggle

Youth today are navigating a world more complex than ever before. With the constant pressures of social media, academic stress, societal expectations, and global uncertainties, it’s no wonder so many young people feel overwhelmed. The COVID-19 pandemic only magnified these issues, leading to increased isolation, anxiety, and hopelessness. For some, reaching out for help seems impossible, and many are left struggling without the tools they need to cope.We recognize this reality, and that’s why New Horizons exists—to ensure that no young person feels they have to face these battles alone.

A Generation in Need of Support

It’s a staggering fact that suicide remains one of the leading causes of death among young people. Many who suffer do so quietly, afraid to ask for help due to the stigma surrounding mental health. We believe this stigma must end. Every person deserves the chance to live a healthy, fulfilled life, and that includes access to mental health support. Our mission is to not only raise awareness but to equip youth with the skills and support systems they need to take control of their mental well-being. By creating safe spaces for open conversations, providing educational resources, and promoting a culture of empathy, we aim to break the cycle of silence that too often surrounds mental health issues.

The Power of Community

We are stronger together. New Horizons believes that community is the cornerstone of mental health advocacy. When young people feel connected, understood, and supported, they are far more likely to seek help and find the strength to overcome their struggles. Our efforts focus on creating these communities—both online and in real life—where youth can talk openly about their challenges, share their experiences, and lift one another up.We are here to be the bridge between young people and the support they need. Whether it’s through school visits, workshops, or partnerships with digital platforms, our goal is to bring the message of mental health awareness to as many young lives as possible.

Prevention Through Education

Mental health education is crucial in preventing crises before they happen. At New Horizons, we are passionate about teaching young people how to recognize the signs of emotional distress, not just in themselves but in their friends and peers. Through our workshops and lectures, we emphasize the importance of self-care, emotional literacy, and healthy coping mechanisms. We believe that education has the power to save lives.

Our Commitment

At the heart of New Horizons is a dedicated team of youth volunteers—passionate young people who are committed to making a difference for their peers. Whether it’s our current team or those joining us in the future, each member brings their unique perspective, energy, and drive to our cause. Every volunteer shares a common purpose: to support their fellow youth by raising awareness and fostering real, meaningful change in the realm of mental health. Our team is built on the principles of collaboration and inclusion, ensuring that everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their best. We believe that when young people come together, they can inspire each other and build communities where everyone feels supported, both in their work and in their personal mental health journeys. Together, we create an environment where innovation, empathy, and passion thrive. And who knows? Perhaps it's you who joins us next.

Our Vision for the Future

We dream of a world where mental health is treated with the same urgency and care as physical health. A world where young people are unafraid to ask for help, where they know they will be met with understanding, not judgment. This is why we exist—to build a future where no young person ever feels alone in their mental health journey.New Horizons is here to remind every young person that they matter. We are here to listen, to support, and to guide them through the darkest times. Together, we can create a world where mental health is prioritized, and where hope is always within reach.
